Expedition Meal #9
|
This relative of the cicada buzzes noisily in large groups and is fairly easy to find in the jungle. A tremendous source of protein, it can be roasted or sauteed but is best when eaten raw. It tastes like a buttery cashew. Chicharra, an ancient Indian food used for long hunting trips, is still in use but slowly disappearing. I will usually eat up to 100 during each 3-month expedition. |
